Author in Residence

Do you have an interest in case studies? Have you already authored one or more cases and used the case study method in the classroom?

HEC Montréal offers a unique opportunity to come and develop your case writing and teaching skills!

The Author-in-Residence Program was launched by HEC Montréal’s Case Centre to encourage widespread use of the case study method in teaching by fostering the development of new case authors and helping them acquire the skills needed for the effective use of case studies in the classroom.

The program aims to produce a major case study, along with teaching notes, that meets the publication standards of the International Journal of Case Studies in Management’s (IJCSM) – a journal that is distributed worldwide thanks to partners such as Harvard Business Publishing.

Any instructor employed by an institution of higher learning other than HEC Montréal is eligible, including professors and full- or part-time lecturers. Applicants must be able to prove at least a rudimentary ability to write and teach case studies. And the working language can be either French or English.

The writer in residence will:

  1. be on-site at HEC Montréal for at least two months;
  2. attend a case method teaching seminar;
  3. attend case writing seminar led by an author;
  4. receive support from the Journal’s editorial team for the production of a major case study;
  5. have access to a workspace.

A bursary of up to $10,000 will be granted to the selected candidate.
