Connection Procedure Wi-Fi with Windows 7

Connecting to HEC Montreal’s wireless network

To connect to HEC Montreal’s wireless network you will need to manually configure the connection’s properties.

Here are the steps to proceed:

  • Open the Start Menu and click on Control Panel

  • Click on Network and Sharing Center


  • Click on Set up a new connection or network


  • Select Manually connect to a wireless network and click  Next


  • Enter the required information: 
    • Network name: HEC Montreal
    • Security type: WPA2- Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Click Next


  • In the next window, click Change connection settings

  • In the HEC Montreal Wireless Network Properties click on the Security tab. Then, in the Choose a network authentication method menu choose “Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)” and click the Settings button.

  • This will open the Protected EAP Properties window in which the “Validate server certificate” and “Enable Fast Reconnect” must both be unchecked. In the Select Authentication Method choose “Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)” and then click the “Configure...” button.

  • This will open the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties. In this window, uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) and click OK.

  • Back to the Protected EAP Properties window, click OK and once again click OK in the HEC Montreal Wireless Network Properties. Once back to Manually connect to a wireless network, click the Close button.


  • Few seconds or minutes later a tip balloon will pop to indicate Windows is waiting for additional information to connect to HEC Montreal. Click on it.


      • Sometimes, the balloon does not appear or disappears before you can click on it. If so:
        • Click on the network icon near the time display in the taskbar:

      • In the network menu, click on the HEC Montreal network and then click Connect

        From this point, the steps are the same.


  • In the Windows Security window enter your identification informations which are the same as the one used for the HEC en Ligne and websites.
  • An icon will appear at the bottom right of the screen ( ) to indicate the computer is connecting to the network.
  • Once the icon changes to  the computer is now connected to Internet through HEC Montreal’s wireless network.


Changing my HEC password


If you change your online HEC password (HEC en ligne, HEC email account) you will need to enter this new password at your next wireless connection.


  • Windows will ask you to enter identification information the same way it was asked on the first connection: Click on the pop up balloon


  • Enter your new authentication information:

If the entered information is correct the computer will get access to HEC Montreal’s wireless network and Internet.
