Definition

The TAGE-MAGE (this test is available in French only) is an assessment and selection tool for candidates seeking admission to a business school. 

The approximately two-and-a-half-hour test assesses candidates’ aptitudes in the following three areas: problem-solving, verbal skills and logical reasoning. The test comprises 90 multiple-choice questions; it is divided into six sections with 15 questions each.

No candidate may take the test more than once between December 1 of one year and November 30 of the next. 

  

Preparing for the test

Candidates are highly encouraged to prepare well before attempting the TAGE-MAGE.

Candidates may prepare with the following:

• the «livret du candidat»,  or
• the work entitled Réussir le test TAGE-MAGE, which is available at COOP HEC Montréal. Candidates should call 514-340-6400 to check for availability.

HEC Montréal also offers a preparation workshop (offered in French only) for those who wish to hone certain math concepts.

  

Timetable and rooms

Candidates living in Quebec
The test is given at HEC Montréal.  For information, refer to the Timetable and rooms Web page.

 

Candidates living outside Quebec
Candidates may take the test through the FNEGE (Fondation Nationale pour l’Enseignement de la Gestion des Entreprises). 

For information, refer to the test timetable available on the official TAGE-MAGE site.  Dates of the following year are generally available in November.

     

Registration and fees

Candidates living in Quebec
Candidates are encouraged to register approximately two weeks before the test date.

Candidates living outside Quebec

Scores

Test scores are considered an important part of a candidate’s application. Although HEC Montréal does not require a minimum test score for admission to the program, the average score is 345. Candidates should therefore have a comparable score.

No information about each session’s average test scores is provided by HEC Montréal or FNEGE.
   

Obtaining scores

Tests given at HEC Montréal
Scores for tests taken at HEC Montréal are mailed within 2 or 3 weeks of the test date. 

No test scores are sent by fax, e-mail or phone, nor is any information regarding average test scores for a given session.

Candidates are responsible for sending test scores to another university.

 

Tests given at a location other than HEC Montréal
It is the candidate's responsibility to authorize HEC Montréal to consult his or her results.
