Since the spring of 2004, HEC Montréal transcripts are marked “WITH GREAT DISTINCTION” when a student’s cumulative grade-point average (CGPA) is 3.7 or higher at the end of a term.
This new policy, rewarding students for outstanding academic achievement, applies to all programs of study except the PhD program.
Students must have earned a minimum number of credits before this recognition is recorded in their transcripts, however. The number varies from program to program, as follows:
| Programs | Minimum number of credits |
| B.B.A. | 30 credits |
| Certificates | 15 credits |
| Graduate diplomas | 15 credits |
| M.Sc. in Administration | 15 credits |
| LL.M. | 15 credits |
| M.Sc. in Electronic Commerce | 15 credits |
| Short Graduate Program - CGA | 15 credits |
| MBA | 16.5 credits |
Students receive this citation of excellence for each term in which their CGPA is 3.7 or higher. The note
***WITH GREAT DISTINCTION*** appears below the list of courses of the terms concerned.
This citation of excellence says a great deal about the merits and achievements of a student or graduate.
It salutes the individual’s commitment and hard work, and is sure to help open all kinds of doors—when looking for a job, applying for bursaries or scholarships, or seeking admission to a graduate or post-graduate program.
As we all know, marking systems vary from one university to another around the world. This citation of excellence will serve as a seal of quality, attesting to students’ and graduates’ skills and achievements, wherever they go.
We recommend that you consult the academic calendar to find out about the registration periods. Various programs can begin on different dates: check HEC en ligne under “Dates inscription / Ma période d'inscription”.

You must meet all stated conditions prior to the registration period for the term following your admission to the program; otherwise you will be denied access to HEC en ligne.
Check your course schedule and student record by visiting HEC en ligne .
You are responsible for managing your program of study. You will receive your degree only if you have met all requirements for your program, including the required number of credits for compulsory and elective courses.

If your contact information (mailing address, e-mail address or phone number) has changed since you were admitted to HEC Montréal, it is important to update it promptly. Make any necessary changes online through HEC en ligne.
Since the Fall 2000 semester, the MELS has obliged Quebec universities to obtain a permanent code assigned and validated by the Ministry for each registered student.
The “permanent code” is a code that the province’s ministry of education, the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS), uses to identify individual students. It consists of four letters followed by eight digits.
e.g. AAAZ11223344
AAA = First 3 letters of the student’s family name
Z = First letter of the student’s given name
11 = Date of birth
22 = Birth month (plus 50 if the student is female)
33 = Last 2 digits of the year of birth
44 = Sequence number assigned by the MELS
If the name appearing in the MELS file differs from the one on record at HEC Montréal, we are required to modify it to bring it in line with the data held by the MELS.
If, while consulting your record on HEC en ligne, you notice that your name has been changed and that you wish to modify it, you will need to provide the following documents:
Failing this, your name will remain as it is currently in HEC en ligne.
