Selection Process

HEC Montréal’s MBA program is subject to a quota. As a result, we are unable to accept all eligible candidates who apply.

Each application submitted is carefully examined by the admissions committee, which will consider every part of the application, including:

  • The candidate’s academic record
  • The relevance of the candidate’s work experience. A curriculum vitae clearly outlining how the candidate’s career has evolved must be included.
  • The results from the admission tests (the average score achieved by our students is approximately 625 on the GMAT)
  • The candidate’s expectations and career goals, in relation to the program objectives:

We are seeking candidates who:

  • are actively involved in their milieu
  • possess strong leadership skills
  • are ethically-minded
  • are capable of working as part of a team
  • have a strong desire to learn and to engage in the program
  • possess strong written and oral communication skills

Some candidates may be invited to attend an interview.

Admission Decisions

The deadline for admission to HEC Montréal’s MBA program for courses starting in the fall term is March 15. Complete applications received after March 15, will not be considered unless space in the program is available.

Candidates from abroad are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by February 1, in order to facilitate the immigration process, as it may take several weeks to obtain all the documents required to study in Canada.

The table below specifies the approximate date by which applicants should expect to receive a response, based on when complete applications are submitted.

Submission of Complete Application Admission decision
February 1st March 15th
March 15th May 15th

Offer of Admission

Candidates who receive an offer of admission from HEC Montréal are urged to respond promptly via HEC en ligne. Candidates are advised to read the guide for newly admitted.

Following Admission

Once admitted, it is very important that students check their e-mail regularly: prior to the start of classes, the Office of the MBA Program will send information about the program, along with an invitation to participate in orientation activities.

International students are advised to begin the immigration process immediately upon receiving their letter of admission.

Deferral of Admission

Deferrals of admission to another term are not granted automatically. The files of candidates requesting a deferral will be re-analyzed and compared with the other applications received for the same session.

Admitted students wishing to defer their admission need not resubmit a complete admission file, but rather, need only complete a condensed request for admission and include an updated curriculum vitae.
