Admission to the MBA


Undertaking an MBA is a serious commitment. You want to be sure that you’ve picked the best possible program. By choosing the HEC Montréal MBA program, you’re taking an important step that will pay off throughout your entire career.

Admission test

  • Mandatory

GMAT or TAGE-MAGE or GRE

Official results obtained from tests taken somewhere other than HEC Montréal must be sent to us directly from the organization that gave them.

English language proficiency

  • Candidates who have completed a secondary-level, collegial or university program of study in English are exempt from taking an English test.

HECTOPE or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Official results obtained from tests taken somewhere other than HEC Montréal must be sent to us directly from the organization that gave them.

At least three years of professional work experience post-graduation excluding internships

Answers to the essay questions

About 750 words per question:

  1. Describe your strengths and weaknesses and explain how you manage these personality traits in your everyday life.
  2. Why are you interested in obtaining an MBA and why have you chosen the HEC Montréal MBA program?

Describe a personal achievement that allowed you to distinguish yourself and explain why you are proud of this achievement.

Two letters of recommendation

Letter of recommendation form

 At least one of which must come from an employer. The other one can be from a professor, an associate etc.

The referee must submit the letter of recommendation form by email, by mail or in person.

 

Status in Canada: Your status defines your tuition fees. For the list of the required documents to submit, please refer to the Application fees page.

 


  • Following your request for admission, you will receive an email indicating your HEC student ID number required to access your HEC en ligne account in 3 business days.

 

  • Within five days after the receipt of this email, you must submit all required documents in PDF format via HEC en ligne under the “Admission” heading.



    You must reply to the acknowledgement receipt sent by HEC Montréal or by email at documentsenligne@hec.ca.

     

Documents not available in PDF format must be sent no later than the admission deadline for application.


Submission of the original or certified copies is required if you received an offer of acceptance from HEC Montréal.

  • All documents submitted become the property of HEC Montréal and will not be returned to the candidate.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • To know the status of your submitted documents; please access your HEC en ligne account.


    Definition of status
    Pending : Document sent
    Received : Application under review
    Unreadable : Poor quality document (incomprehensible or impossible to read all the information). Please resubmit.


  • Admission decision: 4 to 6 weeks after the admission deadline. For the Ph.D. program, the waiting time can be up to 10 weeks.

For paper application requests, please allow additional time.
