Definition

HECTOPE is a language test designed to measure business English skills. It assesses candidates’ ability to understand and use English as a language of communication in an academic and professional setting. 

Preparing for the test

Candidates wishing to improve their chances of success are encouraged to take the Self-diagnostic test and a previous HECTOPE test.

Timetable and rooms

Candidates living in Quebec
The test can be taken only at HEC Montréal.

Candidates living outside Quebec
Candidates living outside Quebec can substitute the test with one of the following English tests:

• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
• IELTS (International English Testing System)

Scores

 

Candidates must obtain a minimum score of: B.B.A. (including a preparatory year) Please consult the language requirements page and select your stream. MBA in French B+ MBA in English A- M.Sc. (English option only) A- Ph.D. A-

Obtaining scores

Scores are mailed within 3 weeks of the test date.

Scores are not delivered by fax, e-mail or phone.
