Supply chain management is becoming more and more important for businesses around the world, and managers with expertise in this field are in great demand. This is hardly surprising, considering that most of the top corporate performers in recent years owe their success to the strategic reengineering of their supply chain. A recent survey in Quebec shows, however, that knowledge of this fast-growing and fast-changing field is lacking and that the related benefits are under-appreciated.

However, with countries like China and India increasingly being awarded contracts that used to go to North American producers, we are seeing resupply delays and traffic congestion at shipping facilities around the world. It is interesting to note in this regard that the Chinese government has declared that logistics will be one its five core priorities in terms of growing the economy of this immense country.
