HEC Montréal congratulates Jean Tirole, winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences

Jean TiroleOur School is proud to note that internationally renowned economist and HEC Montréal PhD honoris causa (2007) Jean Tirole has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his analysis of market imperfections and regulation.

Mr. Tirole is considered one of the most influential economists of our time. He was recognized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for his work on the functioning of markets and his contribution to our understanding of corporate organization and competition.

Mr. Tirole’s work underpins a new industrial economics, based on individual and group behaviour and strategies. His research, rooted in the social sciences, also encompasses political science, sociology and psychology.

HEC Montréal congratulates Mr. Tirole on his exceptional contribution to the field of economics and on receiving this prestigious distinction.
