Minister's award goes to Julien Le Maux

May 23, 2014

Julien Le Maux, Associate Professor (Accounting), has received an honourable mention in the university textbooks category, in the awards presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Science, on May 23.

The competition is intended to encourage and recognize exceptional quality in French-language learning materials and the choice of an appropriate teaching strategy for undergraduate university textbooks.

Professor Le Maux’s textbook, entitled Analyse financière, is meant as a tool for users of financial statements. According to the selection committee’s report, “the jury members were impressed by various aspects of the textbook, including its practical layout, its exhaustive nature and the quality and variety of the case studies. They were also impressed by the fact that it was written by a single author, and that this is his first textbook. It must have been a huge amount of work, and the fact that the textbook is already able to compete with better-known references says a great deal about its quality.”

Professor Le Maux holds a PhD in Management Science and a Master’s in Finance from Université Paris 1 Sorbonne, as well as a Master’s in Business Law from Université 2 Assas. Before joining HEC Montréal in 2008, he was a senior lecturer at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. His research interests concern corporate governance, evaluation, accounting fraud and financial management. He has authored many papers on these different themes, which have been published in professional and academic journals.
