2013 Research and Teaching Awards

On December 4, HEC Montréal saluted the excellence of faculty members with its 2013 Research and Teaching Awards. A total of 13 awards were presented during the evening, which began with remarks by Professor Emeritus Daniel Racette, followed by a tribute to those professors who have retired in the past year and who were officially granted the title of Honorary Professor. They are: Jean-Charles Chebat* (Marketing), Louise Côté (Accounting), Robert Desormeaux (Marketing), Ruth Dupré* (Applied Economics), Laurent Lapierre* (Management) and Roch Ouellet (Management Sciences).

This award salutes the remarkable contribution made by a professor to HEC Montréal’s renown, through his or her activities and achievements in the academic, professional and public spheres over the past three years. The 2013 winner is François Colbert, Full Professor (Marketing) and holder of the Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux Chair in Arts Management.

The recipient constantly strives to improve his or her teaching performance, to create an environment conducive to students' intellectual development and to instil in them the desire to excel and work hard. The award winner is recognized by his or her peers and students as an exceptional teacher.

François-Albert Angers Award
This award recognizes the quality of a textbook written in French by one or more professors, researchers, full-time faculty lecturers or full-time lecturers, and published during the year. To be eligible, the textbook must be intended for use in one or more courses. The 2013 winner is Pascal François, Full Professor (Finance), for Stratégies financières.

This award recognizes the quality of a book written in a language other than French and published during the year, or one not specifically intended for use in one or more courses, by one or more professors, researchers, full-time faculty lecturers or full-time lecturers. The 2013 winner is Bruno Rémillard,* Full Professor (Management Sciences), for Statistical Methods for Financial Engineering.

This award recognizes the best teaching innovation designed and implemented during the year by one or more professors, researchers, full-time faculty lecturers or full-time lecturers. The 2013 winner is Mai Thi Thanh Thai, Assistant Professor (International Business), for the International Graduate Competition.

This award recognizes the authors of business cases featuring one or more women managers. The 2013 co-winners are Jacqueline Cardinal, Researcher associated with the Pierre Péladeau Chair in Leadership and researcher, writer and biographer for Gestion, and Laurent Lapierre*, Honorary Professor (Management), for their case entitled Ève-Lyne Biron et Biron Groupe Santé.

This award salutes the quality of a case published in the International Journal of Case Studies in Management. Normand Turgeon, Full Professor (Marketing), for his case entitled La coopérative Just us! Coffee Roasters, tied with Florian Lüdeke-Freund, Research Associate and doctoral student at the Centre for Sustainability Management, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (Germany), and Dimitar Zvezdov, PhD, Research and Teaching Assistant at the same centre in Germany, for their case entitled La fonction de gestionnaire chez BP: prise de décision et responsabilités en haute mer.
