Over $2.6 million in research grants

July 11, 2012

HEC Montréal professors had an excellent showing in the latest competitions of the main research granting councils, i.e. the FRQNT1, FRQSC2, NSERC3 and SSHRC4. All in all, 21 new individual research grants for which the lead researcher is from HEC Montréal were awarded recently, for a total of over $2.6 million.

They include eight grants to assistant professors under the FRQSC’s Start-Up Program for New Research Professors and the SSHRC's Insight Development Grants program. For Jean-Claude Cosset, Director of Research, "the strong performance of our young researchers once again proves that HEC Montréal can be proud of its next generation of promising researchers."

Overall, HEC Montréal professors posted a success rate of 50% for their grant applications to the SSHRC,* of 41% for those to the FRQSC, and of 33% for those to the FRQNT and the NSERC.

Of special note this year is the significant increase of 129% in the average amount awarded per grant to our researchers by the SSHRC's Insight Grants program,** not to mention that these projects are being funded over a longer period of three to five years, compared to a previous maximum of three years for this type of grant.
