Call for nominations for the Cultural Manager Award

The  Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux Chair in Arts Management  is collaborating with the Conseil des arts de Montréal  to launch the all-new Cultural Manager Award.  The award, along with a cash prize of $5,000, will be one of the ten distinctions presented on November 1 as part of the Prix de Montréal pour les arts et la culture, a major event organized by the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

The Cultural Manager Award is intended to promote the role of managers in this industry by recognizing the accomplishments of an individual who has had an exceptional career in arts marketing or arts management. Managers of organizations that create, produce or disseminate in fields from the performing arts to publishing, film, television, sound recording, heritage, visual arts, crafts or media arts … Managers working for major events, festivals or exhibition and performance venues, for museums and similar institutions or for cultural associations and groups … The competition is intended for any manager in the arts and cultural industries with professional experience of at least 15 years.

Candidates may come from Quebec or the rest of French Canada, and must be nominated by a sponsoring individual or organization. The nomination deadline is September 30, 2011. A jury of peers will choose the winner.

The Chair in Arts Management was created at HEC Montréal in 1991. Through the training and development programs it provides for cultural managers, it makes an important contribution to the cultural vitality of Quebec and the rest of Canada. The Chairholder, Professor François Colbert, founded and directs the International Journal of Arts Management and is the founding President and Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management. Among his numerous publications are Marketing Culture and the Arts, now in its third edition, which has been translated into nine languages.
