Réal Jacob declared Quebec IT Personality of the Month for May 2010

May 17, 2010

Management Professor Réal Jacob, Director of Research Valorization, Knowledge Transfer and Executive Education at HEC Montréal, has been named “Quebec IT Personality of the Month for May 2010” by the Réseau ACTION TI. The organization represents over 10,000 professionals and players in the Quebec information technology industry. This distinction, as part of the OCTAS contest, is a tribute to the quality and social value of Professor Jacob’s research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities for organizational transformation through information technology in the private and public sectors.

The honour was conferred on Professor Jacob as part of the OCTAS contest, which for 23 years has been recognizing the creativity and initiative of IT industry players and saluting their achievements. Through his work with the Centre francophone d’informatisation des organisations (CEFRIO), as Chair of the Advisory Committee on Innovation and Transfer, he has done a great deal to share his expertise with Quebec organizations. The IT sector benefits from the support of researchers like Réal Jacob, who succeed in combining strategic management of change, knowledge and communities of practice with organizational transformation, through new information and communications technologies (NICT).

At CEFRIO, Professor Jacob also worked as an Associate Researcher and later as Scientific Director, Knowledge Management, from 2001 to 2007. He directed major university-corporate projects on tele-working, virtual communities of practice and knowledge management. These projects enjoyed great visibility in Quebec. As Professor Jacob notes, “universities are tremendous pools of knowledge, which has to be made more available to the business world, in particular through transfer centres like CEFRIO and those we are now developing at HEC Montréal.”

As Quebec IT Personality of the Month for May 2010, Professor Jacob will be invited to take part in the 2011 OCTAS Gala at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The Quebec IT Personality of the Year for 2010 will be announced at that time.
