Second Place for HEC Montréal

Concordia Case Competition

March 4, 2010

Four of the School’s BBA students took second place at the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition (JMUCC) on February 28. This was the second edition of this international case competition, featuring teams from 20 universities – 9 from Canada, 5 from the United States, 2 from Europe and 4 from Asia.

The HEC Montréal team of Marianne Blanchard-Dallaire, Maïmouna Diakhaby, Sokmean Nou and Nora Villarreal had to solve several business strategy cases using the knowledge and skills they are currently learning in their studies. Nora Villarreal did particularly well, bringing home the trophy for the best presenter.

During the week-long competition, the 20 teams analyzed cases and presented their solutions. The 20 universities were separated into five divisions of four teams each. Each team had to go head to head against the opponents in its division in the first round, with the winner determined by cumulative points, rather than by elimination.

The HEC Montréal team finished first in its division and second in the final round. “All the different cases gave us the opportunity to learn as a team, to work as a team, to overcome challenges as a team and, above all, to win as a team,” said the four students. They were delighted with the whole experience.
