The extent of the earthquake that occurred in Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, has distressed us all.

In memory of the victims of this tragedy and to express our profound empathy to all the people affected by the disaster, the Director’s Office invites all the members of the HEC Montréal community to observe a minute of silence on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 4:53 p.m., exactly one week after the quake.

This gesture of solidarity is part of a large movement called by the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ), and which all universities have been invited to join. Of course, all of them have responded positively.

Professors, lecturers and students who will be in class at that moment will also be invited to observe a minute of silence after hearing a sound signal.

Individually and collectively, let our thoughts be with the people of Haiti on Tuesday, January 19, at 4:53 p.m., in a spirit of brotherhood.
