Laurent Lapierre Appointed Chair of the OCCQ

July 21, 2009

Laurent Lapierre, holder of the Pierre-Péladeau Chair in Leadership, was appointed to a two-year term as Chair of the Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec (OCCQ) on June 1. Aside from his role as spokesperson and co-ordinator of the Executive Committee, Professor Lapierre will help to promote the OCCQ in dealings with the public, various specialized communities and private and institutional partners.

“Cultural and artistic enterprises have long suffered from a lack of statistics to help them define themselves and their funding needs. The OCCQ collects economic data on such enterprises, to give cultural players, decision makers, researchers and citizens a neutral and objective picture,” says the new Chair.

The OCCQ is a Quebec government agency whose mission is to provide a reliable and up-to-date statistical portrait of the culture and communications sector in Québec. It seeks to meet the real and tangible needs of stakeholders in the culture and communications sectors as well as of those who have dealings with those sectors, in terms of statistics, research assistance and monitoring. The Observatoire is an administrative unit of the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ), the official provincial statistics agency.
