HEC Montréal Loses One of Its Leading Lights, Former Director Jean Guertin

November 7, 2008

Jean Guertin, ancien directeur de HEC Montréal de 1987 à 1994

Mr. Guertin joined HEC Montréal as a professor in 1970 and had a brilliant career there, as a professor, holder of the Chair of Small and Medium-Sized Business Development, Director of the Finance Department and, lastly, Director of the School.

His many successful initiatives as Director included renewing the School’s study programs, strengthening its bonds with the business world both nationally and internationally, and planning and starting construction on HEC Montréal’s third home, on chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine.

HEC Montréal staff who worked with the former Director speak of him as an upright and rigorous individual, an affable colleague and a director who was able to rally others around common projects in a spirit of collegiality.

“Director Jean Guertin was totally devoted to the School, which he loved, ardently defended and proudly championed. His accomplishments will remain engraved in our memories,” summed up Michel Patry, current HEC Montréal Director.

Mr. Guertin’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday, November 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m., and on Wednesday, November 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Salon Dallaire Memoria, at 4231 St-Laurent. A religious ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 12, at 11 a.m., at the St-Viateur d'Outremont church, 1175 Laurier.
