3. Study permit issued by the Government of Canada

You must obtain a study permit issued by the Government of Canada once you have obtained your Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).

Response to your application for a study permit

The study permit retrieval letter or e-mail confirmation (that you must print before leaving for Canada) is not your official study permit.

You must present this letter or e-mail confirmation to an immigration officer at your point of entry into Canada. On presentation to the immigration officer of this letter and the documents that are required for the permit application, you will be given your study permit.

 

Tips for submitting a successful study permit application

  • The study permit must cover the entire duration of your studies. It can be renewed if necessary.
  • The study permit will cease to be valid once your CAQ or passport expires.
  • The specific steps you will have to follow depend on your country of residence, which is not necessarily the country for which you have citizenship.
  • Make sure that your file is complete. A single missing or non-compliant document will .delay your request by several weeks
  • Because the documents you send will not be returned to you keep, copies of all documents you send
  • Students living or who have lived for over six months in the past year in certain countries may be asked potential formally can take a month or more. You must cover the cost of the medical examination. Contact the Canadian immigration office responsible for your country as soon as possible for more information.
  • Do not enter the country as a tourist if your goal is to study in Canada. Many students have been refused entry in the country and their semester have been delayed of several months.

However, some students may be exempted from completing this procedure while other students will also have to obtain a temporary resident visa when applying for their study permit. Contact the canadian diplomatic mission closest  from your country of residence for all formalities you will need to carry out for your stay in Canada.
