Renewing the Temporary Resident Visa

In addition to the study permit, citizens of certain countries also need to obtain a temporary resident visa to be able to enter Canada or to come back after a stay abroad. Consult the list of nationalities that need a temporary resident visa.

If during your studies, you plan on leaving Canada, make sure that your temporary resident visa is valid for several entries (multiple-entry visa).

Note: This visa is only issued outside of Canada.

 

If you are applying for a temporary resident visa (TRV) as you are in Canada with a valid study or work permit, you can send your request of TRV by mail to the CIC office in Ottawa with the following documents:

 

Important: In the application form (IMM5257), in section 9 you must:

-at the question same as current country of residence check ''yes''

-in country you must choose ''Canada'';

-and in ''status'' you must choose ''Other''.

Then you must explain that you are a student at HEC Montréal in Québec, applying for an temporary visa.

Students currently in Québec may renew their visas at the New York visa office or in their country of origin: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/new-york.asp
