Your exchange at HEC Montréal cannot be extend for an extra semester even if you have a CAQ and study permit. For your information, obtaining a CAQ and a study permit could allow you to work on campus as you are studying at HEC Montreal.

B - If your are coming on an exchange for two semesters (more than six months) you MUST obtain a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) before you apply for the study permit issued by the Government of Canada.

Response to your application for a CAQ

Once your application for a CAQ has been processed, you will receive two original copies of your CAQ :

  • You must send the first one to the Government of Canada with your request for a study permit.
  • Keep the second original in a safe place as you will need it at the border.

It is mandatory to have your CAQ in hand when you enter Canada and when you confirm your registration at HEC Montréal.
You may also be asked to show it when carrying out other formalities in Québec (insurance, bank, driver's licence, etc.).

**HEC Montréal has the right to cancel your courses if you do not have your immigration papers on the first school day.**

Tips on submitting a successful CAQ application

  • Remember that your CAQ cannot be valid longer than your passport.
  • It is important that you specify the correct level of studies on the application
    • Undergraduate : BBA (Bachelor in Business Administration)
    • Graduate : M.Sc.

  • The documents you send will not be returned to you. Make at least two copies of all documents you send : one for you and one for your study permit application.
  • Pay close attention to the financial ressources proofs. Do not forget to send the form along with the proofs if you are financialy sponsored (spouse, parents, etc).
  • Always send your documents through a courrier service with signature upon reception of the package or the enveloppe.
