In today’s organizations, and in society in general, the need is greater than ever for leaders with three essential qualities: the ability to show the way when things are unclear (head), the ability to inspire commitment and courage in their team (heart) and the ability to stand up for what they believe in and make tough decisions (gut). This program offers a unique learning approach that blends reflection, discussion and experience.

Goals

  • Articulate your own vision of leadership.
  • Look inward to recognize your strengths (and limitations) and your impact on others.
  • Take stock of your personal experiences and the people who have shaped your leadership style.
  • Identify the challenges and issues that require you to show courage.
  • Take advantage of your colleagues’ input and questions to continue to make the most of your leadership potential.

Is this for you?

Professionals, managers and executives with more than five years of management experience who hope to increase their impact in their organization.

Special features

Take stock of your leadership progress to date and minimize your blind spots. Draft a development plan that sets out what you want to achieve and what is holding you back in an effort to strengthen your abilities.

Module 1 – Articulate your vision of leadership

  • Explore what you think leadership is, and is not, based on the realities in your organization.
  • Analyze how respected community and business leaders carved out their own path through case studies and biographies.
  • Contemplate your own strengths, limitations, motivations and obstacles.
  • Engage in a dialogue with an inspiring business leader.

Module 2 – Develop your leadership

  • Head: Share the outline of a stimulating project you are bringing to your team as part of your organization’s strategic plans.
  • Heart: Motivate each of your team members to make a meaningful contribution and feel a sense of engagement.
  • Gut: Confront adversity, challenge your ideas, defend your convictions and make difficult decisions.

Module 3 – Consolidate your leadership experience

  • Write your leadership story: What is the trajectory that has gotten me where I am today, and what lessons can I draw from it and apply in the future?
  • Listen to my colleagues’ stories and learn from them to gain a full appreciation for the diverse backgrounds, difficulties and rewards involved.
  • Build a development plan: Identify what I want to accomplish as a leader and what is keeping me from making it happen.

The program uses a variety of pedagogical methods including case studies, group discussions, conversations about past experiences, preparation of each participant’s leadership case study, readings and discussions with business professionals.

Participants in all of our seminars will receive a certificate of completion from Executive Education HEC Montréal.
