All courses that do not contribute to obtaining the MSc degree (preparation, introductory, non-program) are payable per credit.

Definition of student status

Tuition fees depend on your student status.

+  Quebec students

• Canadian citizen born in Quebec
• Permanent resident deemed Quebec resident
• Recipient of a scholarship covering differential tuition fees, from your government

+  Canadian students, non-residents of Quebec

• Canadian citizen born outside Quebec
• Permanent resident deemed “non-Quebec resident”1

1 If you believe you qualify as a “Quebec resident”:

1. Complete the Attestation of Quebec resident status.
2. Attach the documents required by the MEESR, depending on your situation.

The change in status applies only to the current term.

+  French students

Under the new agreement between the Government of Québec and the Government of the French Republic concerning university student mobility, tuition fees for French students depend on their status.

+  Undergraduate programs

• If you enrolled in winter 2015, you will be charged the same tuition fees as Quebec resident students, for the duration of your program.

• If you are a new student enrolled in fall 2015, you will be charged the same tuition fees as Canadian non-Quebec resident students.

• If you are a student who has resided permanently for over five years in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, you will be charged the same tuition fees as Quebec students.

+  Graduate programs

You will be charged the same tuition fees as Quebec students.

+  International students

The tuition fees required by the Ministère de l'Éducation, de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche (MEESR) for international students are the same as the tuition fees paid by Quebec students, along with a variable lump-sum differential fee.

You will be charged the same tuition fees as Quebec students if you:

• Hold a scholarship for differential fees granted under fee remission agreements between the Quebec government and foreign governments.

Undergraduate program – Newly enrolled students in fall 2015

If you do not meet the above condition, you will be charged the tuition fees applicable to international students. These tuition fees will remain the same for the duration of your program of studies, unless you are re-admitted.

Methods of payment

Your statements for tuition fees are available online through your HEC en ligne account. To avoid line-ups at the counter and penalties, pay online or by telephone through your financial institution.

Instruction to registrer at your financial institution

Your payment must be made no later than the due date indicated on your invoice.

1 - Use the online Bill Payment service

2 - Select the “Add an invoice/supplier” option

3 - Add HEC Montréal as a payee

4 - Enter your HEC Montréal student number as the reference number (8 digits)

 Your payment should be made no later than  the due date indicated on your invoice; the date of transaction will act as proof.  

+  Electronic funds transfers (foreign students)

Approximate banking fees of C$40 are charged by financial institutions for each transfer, in addition to your tuition fees.

Allow at least 10 days for your payment to be received by the deadline for the term in question. Check the “Finances - Account summary” section of your HEC en ligne file to see whether the payment has been received.

+  Other methods of payment

- Debit card
Pay at the information counter of the Office of the Registrar.

- Cheque or bank draft :

  • Make the cheque or bank draft payable to HEC Montréal
  • Certified cheque required for amounts over $2,500
  • Indicate on the back of payment : student number, first and last name, birth date 
  • Attach the invoice stub and mail to :

A penalty is charged for all amounts remitted after the deadlines mentioned above. These fees are $25 plus 3% of the unpaid balance by semester.

Accounts that are not settled by the tuition fee payment deadline will result in the students being denied access to HEC en ligne.


Students who have a credit balance can ask for a refund at the Information Counter of the Office of the Registrar or send their request by email to, specifying the following information:

  • full name;
  • student number;
  • date of birth;
  • study program at HEC Montréal;
  • mailing address.
