FAQ - Newly admitted to Short Graduate Program

+  How do I confirm that I wish to accept the offer?

Simply register for the specializations courses, or for preparatory courses if applicable, for the term to which the offer of admission applies.

+  I’m an international student. What do I need to do before I start at HEC Montréal?

The International Student Affairs (ISA) team is here to help international students with the process. On the ISA Web site, you’ll find everything you need to prepare for your arrival in Montreal. If you’re from France, our Paris office will give you all the information you need.

+  When and how do I register for my courses?

Registration takes place during the registration period before the start of classes each term. Refer to the academic calendar for the dates.

Every student admitted to the M.Sc. program is assigned a virtual appointment via HEC en ligne. Please note that students cannot register before the date and time mentioned under Ma période d’inscription (My registration period) in HEC en ligne.

+  What are my HEC en ligne username and password?

Your username is your student number, which is printed on your offer of admission. The first time you log on, the temporary password is your date of birth (YYMMDD). Refer to the instructions on the HEC en ligne home page. Feel free to refer to the Registration Guide located on the first page of your online account or Vidéos d’aide à l’inscription (In French only)

+  I have been admitted on condition that I submit official documents. Can I still register?

Yes, conditional admission does not prevent you from choosing your courses.

+  When do classes start each term?

Refer to the academic calendar for information about dates, as suggested in your offer of admission.

+  I won’t be able to get to Montreal in time for the start of courses. Is that a problem?

Students are expected to attend all classes. Instructors are allowed to reject any student who misses the first two classes of a 3-credit course or the first class of a course worth 2 or fewer credits.

+  Can someone help me choose my courses?

Information is made available to students on the Web site to help them choose their courses each term. Refer to the course structure under Current student, which lists the names of the academic supervisors for each of the specializations, along with their contact information.

We encourage you to get in touch with them by e-mail or phone to plan your preparatory and master’s courses for the coming school year. It is therefore important to build your course plan by keeping in mind which courses are available in subsequent terms, as some courses are not given every term.

+  Do I absolutely need to have a laptop computer suggested by HEC Montréal?

Information Technologies specialization:
This program requires the use of a laptop computer configured according to HEC Montréal standards.

Students are free to use their own laptops, as long as they configure them according to HEC Montréal standards .

For specializations in which laptops are not compulsory, students must nonetheless have access to a laptop or desktop computer at home or in our computer labs to do work assigned by professors. HEC Montréal has a number of technology resources available for student use.

+  Do I need to pay my tuition fees immediately after registering?

As stated in the academic calendar, an invoice will be mailed out approximately two weeks before the start of each term; the invoice is payable on receipt.

+  Do I need a student card in order to attend classes?

No. At the start of the term, students will be convened to have their photo taken for their student card. For more information, please refer to the student card page.
