    Conditional Admission

You must register (choose your courses) via HEC en ligne even if you have been granted conditional admission.

You must meet all stated conditions prior to the registration period for the term following your admission to the program; otherwise you will be denied access to HEC en ligne.

Language requirements for graduation

HEC Montréal has introduced a specific language policy for the M.Sc. program, designed to give graduates the distinctive asset of fluency in more than one language. Under this language policy, students must have knowledge of a second language to be able to graduate (French or another language).

Students whose mother tongue is English

Students in this category must provide evidence of a good knowledge in a second language to obtain their M.Sc. degree. For example, this requirement will be met if :

  • The student has completed previous studies in a language other than that chosen for his or her M.Sc. program.
  • The student successfully completes a test designed by HEC Montréal.
  • The student has successfully completed a foreign language course given by a recognized institution.
  • The student holds a certificate of language proficiency issued by a recognized organization (i.e. intermediate level Certificate in French as a second language, Université de Montréal).

+  Name change

Since the Fall 2000 semester, the MELS has obliged Quebec universities to obtain a permanent code assigned and validated by the Ministry for each registered student.

The “permanent code” is a code that the province’s ministry of education, the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS), uses to identify individual students. It consists of four letters followed by eight digits.
e.g. AAAZ11223344
AAA = First 3 letters of the student’s family name
Z = First letter of the student’s given name
11 = Date of birth
22 = Birth month (plus 50 if the student is female)
33 = Last 2 digits of the year of birth
44 = Sequence number assigned by the MELS

If the name appearing in the MELS file differs from the one on record at HEC Montréal, we are required to modify it to bring it in line with the data held by the MELS.

If, while consulting your record on HEC en ligne, you notice that your name has been changed and that you wish to modify it, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • a birth certificate (for students from Quebec or any other Canadian province)
  • a document attesting to your status in Canada (international students)

Failing this, your name will remain as it is currently in HEC en ligne.
