Registration periods

Registration help videos are essential tools for registering, adding or searching a course.

  1. Registration periods are specified in the academic calendar.

  2. A few days before a period begins, check HEC en ligne  for the date and the time at which the system will allow you to register.

  3. Under Registration dates, click My registration period.

Conditional Admission

You must register (choose your courses) via HEC en ligne even if you have been granted conditional admission.

You must meet all stated conditions prior to the registration period for the term following your admission to the program; otherwise you will be denied access to HEC en ligne.

Schedule

  • You are responsible for managing your program of study. You will receive your degree only if you have met all requirements for your program, including the required number of credits for compulsory and elective courses

  • Check your course schedule and student record by visiting HEC en ligne.

  • Note that your exams may not necessarily take place on the same day as your regularly scheduled classes.

  • Choose your courses for the term in question only :
    • Not all courses are offered every term.
    • Every year in late May, HEC Montréal publishes the course schedules for the next three terms. When choosing your courses, take into account the courses available in those three terms.
    • For a description of a given course, go to Zone cours.

Transferring to another MBA option

Students admitted to MBA in Action and who wish to switch to the Intensive MBA option, or vice versa, must submit a transfer request taking into account the following:

the request must be submitted by email to the Administrative Office at mba@hec.ca;

the transfer can take place only at the end of each phase and is conditional upon the student’s passing all courses with a GPA of 2.7 or better, space permitting.

Compulsory courses in phases 1 and 2

Unless they receive instructions to the contrary, the program’s Administrative Office will automatically enrol students in the various compulsory courses of phases 1 and 2. Students wishing to interrupt their studies must send an e-mail message to that effect to mba@hec.ca.

Courses in phase 3

Students are free to choose all their courses in Phase 3. Their choices should be made according to their needs and career objectives. The chosen profile is not mentioned on the grade transcript or diploma.

  • MBA in Action students may take Phase 3 courses together with students of the Intensive MBA during periods 5, 6 and 7. MBA in Action students may also enrol in English MBA courses during the same periods.
  • Usually, MBA in Action students wishing to complete the program in three years must register for two courses per period.

Course project

Students wishing to enrol in a special project in Phase 3 of the program must submit a work plan and schedule. They must also find a regular HEC Montréal professor to supervise the project. The special project is usually worth 1.5 credits and can extend over two periods.

The Request to enrol in a graduate course project form must be used to enrol in the special project.

Registering for a course in another program or at another university

Students wishing to take one or more courses in another program or at another institution will be granted authorization to do so only if the courses in question can be credited as electives in Phase 3 of the program. Except under certain exceptional circumstances, no more than 12 credits will be authorized for such courses.

Students choosing to take a course at another university in Quebec must complete CREPUQ’s Authorization to transfer credits online form: procedure | official site

Supervised Business Consulting Project

Please refer to the web page of the Supervised Business Consulting Project .

Courses in phase 4

Students in Phase 4 are free to choose their courses, although in order to meet program requirements, they must pass two (2) Phase 4 courses.

Students should choose according to their needs and interests, and may register online through HEC en ligne. Before registering, students must ensure that they have completed all of the program’s Phase 1 and 2 courses.

E-Mail

E-mail is how we communicate!

Correcting your personnal information

If your contact information (mailing address, e-mail address or phone number) has changed since you were admitted to HEC Montréal, it is important to update it promptly.  Make any necessary changes online through HEC en ligne.

+  Name change

Since the Fall 2000 semester, the MELS has obliged Quebec universities to obtain a permanent code assigned and validated by the Ministry for each registered student.

The “permanent code” is a code that the province’s ministry of education, the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS), uses to identify individual students. It consists of four letters followed by eight digits.
e.g. AAAZ11223344
AAA = First 3 letters of the student’s family name
Z = First letter of the student’s given name
11 = Date of birth
22 = Birth month (plus 50 if the student is female)
33 = Last 2 digits of the year of birth
44 = Sequence number assigned by the MELS

If the name appearing in the MELS file differs from the one on record at HEC Montréal, we are required to modify it to bring it in line with the data held by the MELS.

If, while consulting your record on HEC en ligne, you notice that your name has been changed and that you wish to modify it, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • a birth certificate (for students from Quebec or any other Canadian province)
  • a document attesting to your status in Canada (international students)

Failing this, your name will remain as it is currently in HEC en ligne.
