On-campus work-study program for Canadian citizens and permanent residents

This financial assistance program provides grants for the creation of part-time student jobs on campus. The grants cover 50% of a student’s salary (hourly wage and benefits).

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be a full-time student during the fall and winter terms. For the summer term, you must be enrolled in at least six (6) credits worth of courses or have been enrolled as a full-time student during the winter term with plans to register as a full-time student in the fall term.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in accordance with Canadian immigration law.
  • You must live in Quebec.
  • You must be enrolled in a program of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Your grade point average must meet or exceed the minimum requirements set out by your program of study.
  • You must have submitted a financial aid application to the Loans and Bursaries Program for the award year in progress.
Note: This criterion does not apply to students who are no longer eligible for the Loans and Bursaries Program because they have reached the maximum debt load for their program of study or the maximum eligibility period.
  • You must require additional financial aid in order to continue studying.

Campus work-study rules

  • Positions must be offered within the student’s educational institution.
  • So as not to interfere with the student’s studies, no job can involve more than 20 hours of work per week over a given term (exceptions for summer semester).
  • Jobs can extend over one, two or three terms of study.
  • Students may not submit more than one application per term.

Procedure

  • Approach a professor or department to request work during the summer, fall or winter term. The professor or department’s budget must be able to cover 50% of your salary. (For example, a research fund, educational development fund or other source)
  • Together with the professor or department, complete the form (dynamic PDF - 146 Ko - in French only).
  • Include an attestation of full-time studies and proof of your application for student aid for the current academic year.
  • Submit the application package to the Student Services office before the deadline (see below).
  • Your application will be examined to determine whether you meet the eligibility conditions and that sufficient funds are available in the budget to meet the request. You will receive a response within a week of submitting your application.

Note to hiring professors and departments

Do you need someone to help you with a research or educational development project, or simply to help you tackle a growing workload? Are you interested in hiring a student for the summer, fall or winter term at no cost to you? If so, this program is for you.

The “Work-Study Program” contest is being run as part of the Work-study Program, a financial aid program that provides grants for the creation of on-campus part-time employment for canadian citizens and permanent residents. The grants cover 50% of a student’s salary.

Taking part

  • Find an eligible student and make sure that he or she is enrolled full-time and has completed an application for government financial assistance for the semester for which you wish to hire him or her.
  • You and the student must complete the form (dynamic PDF - 146 Ko - in French only). You only need to have funds available to cover 50% of the allocated budget, the other 50% of the student's salary being covered by the governemnt grant.
  • Once you have completed the form, submit it to Student Services. Make sure not to miss the entry deadline (see below)!

Your entry will be examined by Student Services to determine whether the student meets the eligibility conditions and that sufficient funds are available in the budget to fulfil the request. You will receive a response within a week of submitting your entry. Good luck!
