Despite being the 5th largest energy producer in the world, Canada struggles to develop harmoniously its energy sector. While pipelines and oil development often make the headlines, each provincial electricity sector across Canada faces multiple and deep challenges, that would be better solved under a more integrated power system. This presentation will cover some of these electricity market challenges and discuss the benefits of better interprovincial integration. The Ontario-Quebec case will be used as an illustration, but eastern Canada power developments will also be addressed. Avenues to enhance cooperation among provinces will be explored.
